Hi, I’m Fiona McDonnell a leader, speaker and author, exploring ways to think differently.
So what is The Turquoise Bit?
In a world on relentless autopilot, it is a space to slow down enough to look again, to look closely, playfully but seriously rather than accept the first thing.
I write for leaders who are ready to stop sleepwalking. The ones building courage to speak up, decide bravely and stay human.
I write about thinking differently. Stories, metaphors and the splash of colour that makes different thinking come to life. The sort that could change how you lead, how you decide, how you communicate and how you see the world you’re walking through, hopefully even appreciate more of it.
The magpie was my inspiration
Magpies are positive in most cultures but full of angles and meaning. People see a noisy, opportunistic bird, collecting shinny things. What they miss, if they never look twice, is one of the most cognitively sophisticated creatures alive. Fiercely intelligent. Drawn to what glints. And that iridescent blue/green tail. Impossible to ignore once you really see it. Not everything is black and white.
Turquoise is also the colour of warm, clear waters, the sort you can see all the way to the bottom. I what I want my thinking and communication to be clear enough that people can see all the way through to the idea underneath, and believe it.
Whatever thinking differently looks like, I’ll keep it honest. I’ll share what I’m still working out not just what I’ve already solved. I’ll ask questions and I’ll try to write the same turquoise clarity that I’m always chasing, so you can see all the way through to the clear underneath and decide for yourself what it’s worth.
Mother, speaker, author and former Global VP, I’m here because thinking differently matters at every level. No new strategy, business model, category or customer solution came from doing the same thing.
Thank you for being with me on the journey.
